Witty Gallery Talk with Katharine Ware

Katharine Ware has been curating photography for many years now and has a lot of experience. She is relatively new to the digital world and loves how you can make photography look “hyper-realistic”, as she called it. She chose Glenn Craley’s photograph, “Dilemma” for the juror’s choice award. Ms. Ware found the photo interesting and she liked how it told a story. She said she could see the green bush hopping across the image to go out the door.

We had a good turn out. Many photographers came to the talk and the ones who were in the show each had a chance to tell us why and what they photograph.

The gallery talks are always informative. I have learned something new every time I go to one.

Katharine Ware has a great sense of humor. She says that each show she curates, she can see herself in them. After she has chosen the images and goes to see the physical work hung in the gallery, she is blown away. It is so different in person than looking at a tiny image on the computer. Ms. Ware did give credit to the people who work in the galleries and to the photographers. She is not a photographer; she leaves that up to other people. Ms. Ware’s background is in Art History.

Thank you to everyone who showed and to the photographers who helped us put on a fantastic 2009 Photo NM show!
